Marc Cherry may be dominating headlines this week because of his part in Nicolette Sheridan’s wrongful termination lawsuit against him, Desperate Housewives and ABC, but late this afternoon, he made headlines for even bigger news. Apparently Cherry has snagged All My Children vet Susan Lucci for his new ABC pilot, Devious Maids. Also starring Ana Ortiz, Dania Ramirez, Roselyn Sanchez and Judy Reyes, the hour-long series will follow four maids and their (in Lucci’s case, literally) crazy bosses.

After forty-one years as daytime diva Erica Kane, I’m excited to see Lucci in a new role and get the prime time cred. she, quite honestly, deserves. Cherry’s new dramedy also becomes higher-profile with this bit of casting. I have fingers crossed that come May it appears on the new ABC schedule.

Devious Maids sounds interesting. I guess it is hard to keep everything fresh and new. I was looking at the cast; while I am sure all of them are fine actors I am not sure who is the stars. I assume the four maids are and they all have tv experience but who is the biggest name on the show??? The maids one would think but even though they have prime time experience and are the focus one might think Grant Show or probably really Susan Lucci is the big name even though she isn’t the lead. Maybe I am just not up with pop culture. Ugly Betty, Scrubs stars do have credibility – maybe it’s longevity of Lucci that suggests she might be the big name -well regardless is a coup for Cherry – she brings a certain je ne sais quoi.
