Upfronts 2014: NBC’s Gotham (First Look)

May 7, 2014

With upfronts starting next week, it’s time to get started watching 2-minute previews of upcoming shows and making snap decisions. The first one out of the gate was a no-brainer from FOX, as they picked up the Batman prequel Gotham. Here we go…

SHOW: Gotham, drama

WHO: Ben McKenzie (Southland), Donal Logue (Law and Order: SVU), Jada Pinkett Smith (Hawthorne), David Mazouz (Touch), Robin Lord Taylor, Camren Bicondova, Erin Richards (Breaking In), Sean Pertwee (Elementary), Cory Michael Smith and Zabryna Guevara (Burn Notice). Written and executive produced by The Mentalist creator Bruno Heller.

WHAT: The prequel to Batman, this series is about based on characters from the DC Comics universe including a young Bruce Wayne (Mazouz), Penguin (Taylor), Riddler (Smith), Joker and Catwoman, the drama explores the origin stories of Commissioner James Gordon (Southland‘s Ben McKenzie) and the villains that made Gotham famous.

WHEN: TBA

WHERE: FOX

BOTTOM LINE: While I’m not a fan of comic books at all, I AM a fan of McKenzie after his turn on Southland (the best show none of you ever watched). And, Jada’s my girl. So.. I will watch the pilot. I will probably set the DVR and see how long it takes me to either neglect it or get excited about seeing it before I hear what happened on the latest episode. The good thing for a non-viewer like me is that I have no pre-coceived concepts of what should happen. I don’t know these characters. For others, it will need to be spot-on or they will lose their minds.
