The winner of the U.S. Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, Fruitvale Stationis gearing up for its international debut at Cannes. In the meantime, however, the Weinstein Company released the first trailer for the film (which they bought for $2 million at Sundance). The film stars Oscar winner Octavia Spencer and features what some are calling a career-making role for former Friday Night Lights/Parenthood standout Michael B. Jordan.

Jordan plays Oscar Grant, a 22-year-old San Francisco Bay Area man whose 2009 shooting by Oakland BART police sparked outrage and protests in the city. The film is the directorial debut of Ryan Cooglar (formerly titled simply Fruitvale) and will be released July 26.
