Montano Fogs It Up

More than 20,000 views in less than 24 hours. Yeah, I’d say he’s done it again. The King of Soca, Machel Montano, one of the hardest working men in the business, released the video for his 798th hit song, “The Fog,” Sunday morning. Before bedtime, it was knocking on 20,000 views. I know mainstream artists who would kill for numbers like that. It seems that’s par for the course for Montano, who’s been performing since the ripe old age of seven (he turned 38 in November). With Carnival season in full swing, the video was just filmed last weekend at the Soaka Fête. And here’s the thing: It perfectly encapsulates the excitement that takes over Trinidad and Tobago every January/February. This is the perfect primer. You’ll see one of the reasons this is my adopted home. Watch it and see how it all goes down.
