best reason to pay for premium cable (sofa awards 2012)

December 29, 2012

The ninth annual sofa awards… keep coming back as more recipients are revealed throughout the rest of the year.

3With a debut season that was near perfect, Homeland stepped to the plate this fall with high expectations, which was compounded with a better showing at the Emmys than expected (the show picked up six awards, including Best Drama Series, Best Actor and Best Actress), which coincidentally were handed out the week before the second season premiered. The principals were all back in place: Claire Danes and Damian Lewis as the bipolar CIA agent and the man with whom she is obsessed (and is, coincidentally a former POW who just tried to kill the Vice President), respectively. The two have always danced around their connection – is it infatuation? Is it romance? Is it hatred? This season answered those questions, and continued to turn the show upside down, episode after episode. I cannot think of a show that took as significant a left turn since Alias had the CIA raid the SD-6 offices. No sophomore slump here. Let’s see where the Emmys ranks the show this season.
