most unintended-yet-infectious lyrics (sofa awards 2012)

December 19, 2012

The ninth annual sofa awards… keep coming back as more recipients are revealed throughout the rest of the year…

20When Oklahoma City resident Sweet Brown‘s apartment complex caught on fire, she never knew that she would become a national celebrity. Hell, she didn’t even have time to grab her shoes or nothin’ (Jesus). The resulting interview with KFOR News Channel 4 went viral, generating millions of hits overnight. The meme went further to include close to 50 million hits over various videos and remixes. But sweet, sweet Brown’s words simply resonated. It was the inflection of her voice, the intonation… we fell for it, hook, line and sinker. Every single line she said is quote-worthy. And we quote it.

She said, “Well, I woke up to get me a cold pop and then I though somebody was barbecuing. I said, ’Oh, Lord Jesus it’s a fire.’ Then I ran out. I didn’t grab no shoes or nothing Jesus. I ran for my life and then the smoke got me, I got bronchitis! Ain’t nobody got time for that.”

Let these words live in infamy.
