The Bravermans, Christmas 2012. NBC

The Bravermans, Christmas 2012. NBC

Some people don’t get the Bravermans. But, I do. They’re a normal family. Not normal for TV, but normal for real life. They talk over one another, the fight over silly stuff, they really love each other… it’s like my family and probably like yours. That’s why a lot of people don’t watch the show; they tell me it’s too much like real life and they can get that at home. Well, this season brought real life to the table and held it there. With Kristina’s battle against breast cancer, we have seen the ugly underbelly of a horrible disease. Some people handle it better than others (Cathy on Showtime’s The Big C), but poor Kristina is getting the ugly treatment, from the vomiting to the pain. And no one on TV can rock a fever quite like Monica Potter, who is doing phenomenal work as the perfectionist über-mom who now has to nurse herself back to health. Peter Krause shines as her helpless husband, trying to be supportive, but never quite getting it is spot-on. In fact, the entire cast has lifted their performances this season and that’s saying a lot from a group as gifted as this one. The writing has been inspired and the tears form. Every week.
