Quevenzhané Wallis Beasts Her Way Into a Gotham Award Nomination

October 18, 2012

Beasts of the Southern Wild

The awards season has officially begun. With today’s announcement of the nominees for the Gotham Independent Film Awards, we are off and running. The film that’s currently atop my Best of 2012 list, Beasts of the Southern Wild, was passed over for Best Feature, which is a bit heart-breaking, but did pick up nominations for Quevenzhané Wallis (Breakthrough Actor) and Benh Zeitlin (Breakthrough Director). Ava DuVernay’s Middle of Nowhere also picked up two nominations, including one for Best Feature and one for Emayatzy Corinealdi (Breakthrough Actor). Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom and Richard Linklater’s Bernie also picked up two nominations each.
