Awkward Black Girl: The Sleepover (S2,E1)
The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl: it’s finally back! After what seemed like forever, but I guess amounted to a ridiculously long break, the Awkward Nation’s leader is back and just as awkward as ever. As with all successful series, the second season is a testament to the quality of the show – was it a breakout hit that is only getting better with age (like The Good Wife) or is it a flash in the pan of creativity that still has a pedigree, but with each passing episode, the brilliance is being watered down (like Glee). Luckily, if the season premiere is any indication, we’re in good hands. The comedy was on point and the drama wasn’t heavy-handed. We’re in for a good season.
If you haven’t had a chance to watch it yet, here’s the video below. It airs monthly on Pharrell‘s iamOTHER Youtube network. But I will continue posting every month, just after the episodes premier. And, as it’s such a quotable show, I’ll leave you with some of my favorites from the episode.
White Jay: “It’s our 3-week-iversary.”
J: “White people celebrate everything.”
“Why do smelly people stay opening their bodily crevices?” – J
“Thug life.” – A
“Girl, why do you look like Chaz Bono? Auditioning for Dancing With the Stars?” – CiCi
Jesus: “The dress code is black and gray.”
Germy Patti: “But you see, silver is a cousin of gray… Come on, I know you had a box of Crayons? The 64-pack? With the built-in sharpener?”
