House of Lies: The Pilot

December 28, 2011

Don Cheadle has always been one of my favorite character actors. Luckily, when Hotel Rwanda came along in ’04, Hollywood saw him in a different light and he’s been getting better roles since. And now, he’s headlining his own series on Showtime. Debuting Sunday, January 8 at 10PM ET, House of Lies follows a cut-throat group of management consultants willing to stop at nothing to get their next client. Besides Cheadle, Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars), Ben Schwartz (Undercovers) and Josh Lawson (Romantically Challenged) round out the members of the group. Richard Schiff (The West Wing) will eventually show up as well.

Additional cast members include Dawn Olivieri as Cheadle’s ex-wife, Donis Leonard Jr. as their gender-confused son and Glynn Turman as Cheadle’s father.

Cheadle shines in this role, bringing out a side that we have never seen. In fact, rarely do we see black men portrayed as such a character. He’s devilish, complicated, horny, brilliant, sexy, slimy and devious all at once. In a smart move, Showtime has shared the pilot in time for you to watch, like and subscribe before the series gets underway. I can’t argue with their logic. Here it is. Let me know what you think.
