First Look: Damages, Season 4

June 16, 2011

Damn you, DirectTV, damn you!!

I love and adore the convoluted, well-acted, well-written, well-produced Damages. Since Glenn Close‘s Patty Hewes first made her appearance on-screen in the summer of 2007, I have been hooked. And I’m not the only one. Critics lavished praise on the complicated FX drama, and the awards started piling up. Close won two consecutive Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Emmys (with a third nomination last year) and co-stars Rose Byrne (3 nominations), Ted Danson (3 nominations), Zeljko Ivanek (1 win), William Hurt (1 nomination), Martin Short (1 nomination) and Lily Tomlin (1 nomination) were also lauded. Ratings, however, declined because of the non-linear story-telling style that marks the show, and FX opted out of a fourth season. DirectTV opted in for a final two seasons. I will watch them when they come out on DVD. In the meantime, for those of you who will be getting to watch the fourth season unfold, here’s a sneak. And all I have to do is say two words: John Goodman. And here’s five more he should hear soon: “and the Emmy goes to…”
