Mary J. Blige Wants Someone to Love [Her]

April 4, 2011

Fuck the naysayers. Mary J. Blige can do no wrong. Late last week she premiered the video for the lead single from her upcoming 10th studio album, My Life II: The Journey Continues (due September 20). The single, “Someone To Love Me (Naked),” features Diddy and Lil’ Wayne, samples “You Roam When You Don’t Get It At Home” by The Sweet Inspirations. The video debuted exclusively on VEVO and is directed by Colin Tilly and produced by Jerry “Wonder” Duplessi.

If you don’t know the backstory, the song was originally on Diddy’s Last Train to Paris album, with some other girls singing the chorus. Mary loved it, decided to remake it, called Weezy and the next thing you knew, the song had hit the airwaves. I never heard the old version and quite honestly have no plans to. Diddy could easily have been left as hype man on this song and called it a day. But, since it was his song in the first place, I get why he wanted to stay on it. What I don’t get is him approving Lil’ Wayne, who absolutely obliterates Diddy without even trying.
