the Rise of the Underground – The Hottest Mess of the Year
January 27, 2011
Raise you hand if you already have ticket for the hottest show of the winter. No, I’m not talking about Prince’s never-ending parade of concerts. And I’m not talking about those small-scale shows by the artist formerly known as L-Boogie. I am talking about the Rise of the Underground, the February 3rd show at (le) Poisson Rouge featuring Jaiden, Rahbi, Sophia Urista, Charles Perry and headlined by KimberlyNichole. If you have ever seen any of these artists perform, you already have an idea of what you’re in for, but what I need all of you to collectively realize is that this is a group outing: when you put all of this ridiculousness under the same tent, you have one serious circus.
If you weren’t there the last time KimNicky and Rahbi unleashed their ferociousness on NYC, get caught up before the show. Also, take a second to check out my recent conversation with Rahbi about his new single and upcoming album.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
KimberlyNichole, an avante-garde singer, songwriter and mesmerizing performer was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. After spreading her wings and relocating to New York City, her journey went into full speed. She has shared the stage with Bilal, Mayer Hawthorne, Dwele, English Rock group The Heavy, Aloe Blacc, Rob Lewis, and Janelle Monae. She also collaborated with renowned R&B crooners Anthony Hamilton and Lyfe Jennings on Lyfe’s current project. Kimberly has performed at sold out shows across the US (New York, DC, Atlanta, Seattle, Virigina) and even abroad in Japan and Africa. Her most amazing milestone has been completing her debut album “the Yellow Brick Journey”, which was self-funded and released independently. After releasing the project, KimberlyNichole caught the attention of two legendary songwriters/performers, Ashford & Simpson, who impressed with her artistry, took her under their wing as mentors. Through them, she met Vogue Magazine’s ubiquitous Andre Leon Talley, who featured her in his column in the December 2010 issue. Few have had that honor.
RAHBI is the soul of Rock and Roll, a revolving energy that continues to produce Legends, Statements, Superstars & Icons. Musical Goddess Erykah Badu has dubbed RAHBI as ““Pure Light”” while Janelle Monae says his fearlessness inspires her. RAHBI’s new single “Rollercoaster,” produced by Grammy award winning artist PJ Morton, encourages the world to live life on the fun side… A lovely prelude to his forthcoming studio album “GoldenChild.” Feel the rhythm as RAHBI frees minds, blurs lines, & makes love to his “Beautiful People” one song at a time. Welcome to the PlaGround!
In a time when real singers are few and far between in the music industry, we introduce Jaiden. This exciting young entertainer is poised to take the world by storm with his poignant lyrics and powerful voice. Boasting an incredible range and unparalleled control, Jaiden’s sound is mature and is one with which few of today’s artist can compare. He flaunts his songwriting skills with concepts that are brutally honest, and down-to-earth, in a way only he can. Jaiden has already established himself as a writer, penning lyrics for other well-known artists such as Jeannie Ortega, Case, Carl Thomas, Japanese pop sensation FOH, and newcomer Jalen for the recent release of MTV/Paramount Film’s “Save The Last Dance 2.” Jaiden has perfected his talents while working with super producers Rockwilder, Eddie F, Troy Oliver, Full Force and a host of other chart-topping producers. He has honed his stage show from touring experiences with P Diddy, Alicia Keys, Lauryn Hill, John Legend, and Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park (FORT MINOR). Complimented for his tireless and professional work ethic and endless pursuit for musical perfection, it appears that now is the perfect time for Jaiden to emerge from the background and establish his star, ensuring the world takes notice.
