Lookin’ For Dre

July 7, 2010

Disappointed because there’s no Dre on Big Boi‘s new project, Sir Lucious Left Foot…The Son Of Chico Dusty? I feel your pain. None of the cuts reuniting the greatest hip hop act ever made it on the disc. If you have heard Big Boi expressing his disdain for the jokers over at Jive Records, you certainly know why. When Big Boi went into the studio an produced the creative, untraditional album that anyone who has ever listened to an OutKast album would expect, Jive was thrown. They wanted him to make songs like Lil Wayne‘s “Lollipop.” Are you effin’ kiddin’ me? No offense to Wayne; Lollipop is a pretty hot song, for what it was. Big Boi always has been and always will be left of the bulk of acts in hip hop. His brain is wired that way.

Unfortunately, Big Boi has always been the undervalued member of the group. I love Dre. Always have. But for people to assume that all of OutKast’s creativity came out of him is quite simply put… stupid. And clearly that’s what they were thinking at Jive. So, to cut the story short: Big Boi left Jive, signed with Def Jam and then couldn’t use any songs with both Big Boi and Dre because Jive wouldn’t let him. Which is fine. I mean, it sucks, but we can deal with it. Big Boi is talented. The album, after just two listens, is hotfiya. I will give more details soon, but first listen works for me.

Too artsy my ass.

Oh, and a treat. Most of you have probably heard it, but… here’s “Lookin’ For Ya,” the OutKast featuring Sleepy Brown track that did not make it on the album. Feel free to download below.
