This is How We Do It Uptown or Down in the Treme

June 18, 2010

It’s Feel Good Friday. Enjoy the tunes. Smile.

The Treme theme song. Is it feel-good? Yes and no. Hurricane Katrina is plainly evident and the show, itself is deep and introspective – but the song uplifts me every single time I hear it. It’s as if the spirit of New Orleans demands that you put a smile on your face and bob your head.

“This Is How We Do It” by Montell Jordan came out in the spring of my freshman year of college. I have an indelible memory of a BBQ held on the back terrace at Quintard, with this song playing throughout the day. One of my favorite college memories. Not the best song ever recorded, but who cares?

Speaking of college, this song was the hot shit around the time of comps. Again, memories. Hahaha. This is the edited version; I remember going to buy the CD single (yeah, way back then that’s what we did) and popping it into the CD player in my truck and being like… WTF?? My “innocent” ears were shocked. Anydamnway, here’s the third and final Feel Good Friday selection for this week: “Deja Vu (Uptown Baby)” by Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz.
