LaLa Cast as MLK
Much ado has been made about Lee Daniels‘ latest project, The Butler, which just began filming in New Orleans last week. With a cast Oscar campaigns were dreamed of, the newest addition is True Blood‘s Nelsan Ellis (Lafayette Reynolds, affectionately known as LaLa to his mentally unstable mother, Ruby, played by Afre Woodard) in the pivotal role of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
In addition to Ellis as King, the cast includes Oscar nominee Liam Neesan as President Lyndon B. Johnson, Oscar winners Robin Williams and Melissa Leo as President Dwight Eisenhower and First Lady Mamie Eisenhower and Oscar winner Jane Fonda as Nancy Reagan. Additionally, Oscar winners Cuba Gooding Jr, Vanessa Redgrave and Nicole Kidman are on board, as well as Oscar nominee Terrence Howard. Oscar winner Forest Whitaker plays the titular role, with Oscar nominee Oprah Winfrey playing his wife, Gloria. That’s not to mention Mariah Carey, John Cusack, Minka Kelly, James Marsden, Jesse Williams, Liev Schreiber, Lenny Kravitz, Yaya DaCosta, David Oyelowo, and Colman Domingo being part of the enormous cast.
More to come…
