joe’s favorite things: Williams-Sonoma’s Peppermint Bark

While I am loathe to give free advertising to a company that used to steal hours upon hours from my life (with decent, but disproportional, salary), the week of Christmas makes me want a box of Williams-Sonoma’s peppermint bark. And, only Williams-Sonoma’s. I tried an inferior one recently and it only made me want Sonoma’s more.

I remember when I worked for Sonoma that we would have people coming in as early as September looking for peppermint bark. It has to represent a major portion of their fourth quarter sales figures; we would go through, quite literally, hundreds of cases per store. Hand-made of a custom-blended Guittard chocolate, infused with natural peppermint oil – not peppermint extract – then layered with creamy white chocolate and dusted with handmade peppermint candies (the hard one; not those soft, icky ones), this stuff is addictive. So much so that Williams-Sonoma has a set of two price, as most people buy one as a gift and one to eat on the way home from the store. In fact, back in the day, we had a case price for it!

So, if you’re in the area, drop by Sonoma and pick up a tin or two. They will sell out. Get it while you can.
